President with Dr Esther Etuk as the pioneer Secretary.
We have screened thousands of women for breast and cervical cancers and positive cases have
been referred appropriately while being able to sponsor the treatment of a few. We have carried out
health talks/ cancer awareness programs and there has been a tremendous improvement in the
uptake of breast/cervical cancer screening by our women.
Our branch has produced two National Presidents: Dr Sylvia Effanga (late) and Dr Valerie Obot. We
have won a number of prizes including the National President’s prize as the most active branch in 1991,
1993, 1995, 1997. Two of our members have also won the Irene Ighodaro’s prize.
Outstanding records made in this Biennium include the achievements of a lot of female firsts – Provost
of Health Sciences, NMA Chairman, MDCAN Chairman, President of Association of Resident Doctors.
