Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Enugu State Commemorates World Breastfeeding Week, 2025

Theme – “Invest in breastfeeding, invest in the future”

World Breastfeeding Week, held from August 1st–7th, highlights the critical role of breastfeeding in promoting child health and development.

This year’s theme urges governments, health systems, employers, and communities to foster supportive environments for breastfeeding mothers.

Breastfeeding enhances immunity, supports brain development, lowers healthcare costs, and contributes to achieving SDGs 2 and 3—zero hunger and good health.

Global milestones include increased exclusive breastfeeding rates, stronger policies, and growing advocacy.

Call to Action:

  • Continued investment in skilled lactation support.
  • Enforcement of the International Code on Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes.
  • Community-based programs that empower mothers.
  • Establishing breastfeeding rooms in workplaces etc.
  • Supporting breastfeeding is an investment in the health of every child and in the future of our world.
