MWAN ENUGU STATE REPORT

1. Reporting Period – Fourth Quarter (October – December), 2024.

2. Participation in National and International events – MWAN Enugu participated fully in the following events:

3. State level collaborations and partnerships

๐Ÿ“MWAN Enugu partnered with BISON (Breast Imaging Society of Nigeria), Enugu; U-TOLF and Afia TV/Radio to mark the Breast Cancer Awareness Month on the 7th to the 19th of October, 2024.

๐Ÿ“MWAN Enugu collaborated with the Enugu State Paediatric Association of Nigeria Pneumonia Subcommittee to mark the World Pneumonia Day, 2024.

๐Ÿ“MWAN Enugu partnered with the Paediatric Endocrinology unit, UNTH, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu to commemorate the World Diabetes Day, 2024.

๐Ÿ“MWAN Enugu collaborated with the Nigerian Society for Paediatric Infectious Disease and Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, UNTH, Enugu to mark the World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week, 2024.

4. State activities/Projects towards the National vision

๐Ÿ“Breast Cancer Awareness Month October 2024 – the following activities were carried out:

โœ… TV talk show on Afia TV DSTV channel 256/Radio talk show on Solid FM to create awareness about Breast Cancer

MWAN Enugu Guest in Studio was the President, Dr. Chioma Odimegwu

โœ… A workshop/symposium organized to educate the Girl Child about Breast Cancer and Positive Femininity.

MWAN Enugu Resource person was the President, Dr. Chioma Odimegwu

โœ… Free Pap smear for MWAN Enugu members

โœ… Breast Cancer Awareness Road Walk

โœ… Free Breast Examination for over 500 women and Breast Sonography for several women.

โœ… Free Cervical Cancer screening for over 350 women

โœ… Education of women/Question and answer sessions on Breast and Cervical Cancers

โœ… Painstaking data collection for project evaluation and publication.

The 2023-2025  Biennium made history with the introduction of the first ever Breast Sonography in the Annual MWAN  Enugu Breast Cancer Screening. This feat was recorded by our collaborative partnership with BISON Enugu, led by Dr Amaka Nnamani as President.

We also introduced our first ever Paperless EMR data collection during the annual MWAN Enugu cancer screening in October 2024

๐Ÿ“MWAN Enugu participated in the Nigerian Society of Restorative Dentistry 8th Biennial Scientific Conference and AGM where the President, Dr. Chioma Odimegwu delivered a goodwill message on its behalf.

๐Ÿ“World Radiology Day, 2024

โœ… TV talk show about the important roles of Radiologists in advancing healthcare in our communities on Afia TV

MWAN Guest in Studio was Dr. Chioma Aneke, SR, Radiology Department, UNTH, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu.

๐Ÿ“World Pneumonia Day, 2024 – the following activities were carried out:

โœ… Health talks about Pneumonia at the Children Outpatient and Immunization clinics in ESUTH, Parklane and UNTH, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu.

โœ… TV and Radio talk shows on Afia TV, Signature TV, Solid FM and Radio Nigeria on Pneumonia and it’s impact in our communities.

MWAN Enugu Guests in Studio were – Drs. Chika Anarado and Mirabel Obijiaku, Consultant Paediatricians with the Pulmonology units at UNTH Enugu and ESUTH Parklane respectively.

๐Ÿ“ World Diabetes Day, 2024 – the following activities were carried out:

โœ… Road walk for Diabetes awareness in Children

โœ… Free blood glucose testing for children in the hospital

๐Ÿ“ Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week, 2024

โœ… TV talk show on Afia TV to create awareness about Antimicrobial Resistance.

๐Ÿ“Commemoration of World Health Days of Public Health Importance

โœ… This was done by collaborations/partnerships as detailed above and health campaign write-ups coordinated by the MWAN Enugu State Secretary, Dr. Grace Bernard-Asadu such as; World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, World Pneumonia Day – Prof. Adaeze Ayuk, World Diabetes Day – Dr. Maryann Oham, 16 Days Activism Against Gender Based Violence – Dr. Ogochukwu Nwoye.

๐Ÿ“MWAN Enugucelebrated one of members who assumed office in October as the Editor in Chief of MWAN Journal after the end of the tenure of the previous Editor in Chief.

๐Ÿ“MWAN Enugu celebrated one of her members who was appointed the substantive Medical Director of Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu

๐Ÿ“MWAN Enugu celebrated one of her members who was appointed by the International Pulmonology Society as the Ambassador representing Nigeria on behalf of the Nigerian Thoracic Society.
